What is ASSYST?
ASSYST is a protocol that leverages the principles of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model. We will be using the butterfly tapping in our session tomorrow.

Who can benefit from ASSYST?
ASSYST is beneficial for anyone dealing with stress or emotional challenges. It is not limited to individuals who have experienced major trauma; it can help with daily stress and anxiety management as well.

Is ASSYST confidential and safe?
Yes, ASSYST sessions are conducted in a safe and confidential environment. For remote group sessions, anonymity is ensured, meaning you do not need to share your feelings or trauma details with others.

Do I need to talk about my trauma during ASSYST sessions?
No, there is no need to verbally share your trauma or stress details during ASSYST sessions. The protocol focuses on internal processing using bilateral stimulation, making it a non-verbal and stress-free experience. You will need a journal to record any thoughts that show up.

What should I do if the connection is lost during a remote session?
Try to reconnect immediately. If you cannot reconnect within five minutes, a team member will contact you after the session. If you are in the middle of tapping, continue to tap until your body feels better and then try re-connecting.

What if I'm running late?
We will wait for 5 minutes in the waiting room for all clients to arrive. After that time, clients will not be permitted to join late.

How do I prepare for an ASSYST session?
1. Join early, 10 minutes before the session starts.
2. Sit in a chair with armrests or on the ground.
3. Ensure you are in a distraction-free and private space.
4. Use a camera-equipped device, ensure it’s charged or plugged in, and have earbuds/headphones or a microphone.
5. Position your camera to show you from the waist up in a well lit room.
6. Have water, tissues, a trash can, paper, a pen, and a blanket or sweater nearby.
7. Drink water before the session and eat something within four hours prior.
8. Use the restroom before the session.

What should I do after the session?
1. Breathing Exercise: Continue practicing the breathing exercise several times a day.
2. Butterfly Hug: Use the Butterfly Hug if you experience high levels of distress (SUDS 6-10).
3. Follow-Up: Contact our team if your symptoms do not improve within six days.
